Labbadia expressed his admiration for the striking duo of Victor Osimhen and Victor Boniface, highlighting the squad’s offensive depth and skill, Footballrover reports.

His remarks followed discussions regarding a potential appointment as head coach after Finidi George’s resignation, which was prompted by a series of disappointing results.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) initially named Labbadia as the new head coach, intending to prepare the team for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Benin and Rwanda in September.

However, the agreement ultimately collapsed due to reported financial disputes between Labbadia and the NFF.

In an interview with Martin Harnik for Bild, Labbadia conveyed his eagerness to lead Nigeria in prestigious tournaments such as the AFCON and the World Cup.

“I was tempted to play in the Africa Cup of Nations and the World Cup. Above all, to play in a World Cup with a team that would not have to hide from the big teams,” he noted.

Labbadia was especially impressed with the Super Eagles’ offensive potential, particularly praising Galatasaray’s Osimhen and Bayer Leverkusen’s Boniface.

Nigeria has an offence that is second to none. I have to say that honestly,” he added.

After negotiations with Labbadia fell through, the NFF appointed Austin Eguavoen as the interim manager.
