After three months on the sidelines, Victor Boniface returned to Leverkusen’s starting XI and wasted no time in showing what he’s made of.

The 24-year-old, who suffered an injury during Nigeria’s 2-1 defeat to Rwanda in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers, had missed 14 games across all competitions.

Leverkusen took charge of the game early on, and within 15 minutes, Boniface capitalised on a perfect pass from Alejandro Grimaldo to fire a first-time shot past Hoffenheim’s goalkeeper Luca Philipp.

His ninth goal of the season got Xabi Alonso’s side going with full confidence, only to double their lead through Jeremie Frimpong before halftime.

Gift Orban scores again as Hoffenheim struggle

Hoffenheim featured two Nigerians in their squad—Gift Orban and Kevin Akpoguma—but only Akpoguma started.

Orban made an instant impact off the bench. The 22-year-old replaced Dennis Geiger in the second half and needed just a minute to score his second Bundesliga goal of the season, reducing the deficit for the visitors.
