Rivers United head coach, Finidi George, has dropped a huge hint at the possible return of ex-Super Eagles star, Brown Ideye, to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
The AFCON winner, who has played across Europe and Asia, may be on the verge of making his way back to the league where it all began for him, Footballrover reports.
Brown Ideye, who last featured for Al-Yarmouk in Kuwait, is reportedly considering concluding his illustrious career in Nigeria.
The 36-year-old striker started his professional journey at Bayelsa United in 2006 before embarking on a successful European career.
Now, speculations are swirling that he could return to his roots, with several NPFL clubs reportedly interested in acquiring his services.
However, Finidi George has now confirmed that the Pride of Rivers may be leading the race to secure Ideye’s signature.
Speaking after their recent game in Port Harcourt, the Rivers United coach said,
“There is every likelihood that he’ll join us. He wants to give back; that’s the most important thing. He has that hunger; we’ve seen Ahmed Musa, and if he’s willing to do that, I think we’ll welcome him.”
Brown Ideye set to light up NPFL again
Ideye, recently spotted training with the Garden City side and watching their 2-0 victory over Shooting Stars, appears to be edging closer to a homecoming.
His potential return could be a defining moment for the league, much like Ahmed Musa’s recent NPFL comeback.
If the deal materialises, it will add to the growing trend of former Super Eagles striker returning to the NPFL.

Players like Rashidi Yekini and Ahmed Musa have previously returned to make significant contributions to the Nigerian topflight.
Brown Ideye’s storied career includes 159 goals in 442 club appearances and 28 international caps, where he found the net six times for Nigeria.
And his return to the NPFL would be a fitting close to a remarkable career.
