Finidi addresses Amokachi and Amunike's struggles in NPFL: 'let them do their job'

Rivers United head coach Finidi George has addressed the rocky starts faced by former teammates Daniel Amokachi and Emmanuel Amunike in their coaching careers in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

Finidi’s comments evoke both concern and intrigue, as both coaches are currently experiencing a rough patch with their respective teams, Footballrover reports.

Daniel Amokachi made a return to the NPFL after a nine-year hiatus. Recently appointed as the head coach of Lobi Stars FC, he replaced Eugene Agagbe in a bid to revive the struggling team.

The 1994 Super Eagles star last managed the now-defunct FC Ifeanyi Ubah in the league, and his return was expected to infuse Lobi Stars with much-needed experience and strategic insight.

Unfortunately, Amokachi’s tenure has yet to yield a victory, with Lobi Stars recording three losses, three draws, and a single win.

Currently, they sit in a precarious 17th position, accumulating just six points.

At the other end, Emmanuel Amunike, head coach of Heartland FC in Owerri, is also facing adversity, having secured only one win in seven matches since the team’s return to the NPFL.

Under Amunike’s leadership, Heartland has managed one victory, three draws, and three defeats, placing them in 15th position, tied on points with Lobi Stars.

And as for Finidi George, his experience has been markedly different.

After a brief spell with the Super Eagles, he has embraced his role at Rivers United, maintaining an impressive unbeaten streak that sees his team leading the table with 17 points from seven matches, including five wins and two draws.

Following a recent 2-0 victory against Shooting Stars in Port Harcourt, the former Enyimba boss was asked about his former teammates’ struggles.

He responded cryptically,

“I can’t speak; please, let them not say… I don’t want anybody to choke me. So, let them do their job.”
