After Rivers United’s 2-1 win over Nasarawa United on Saturday, head coach Stanley Eguma expressed his delight while commending his players’ fighting spirit.
Coach Stanley, who thanked God for the win, heaped praises on his players as goals from Chijioke Akuneto and Ishaq Kayode enabled the Port Harcourt side keep their NPFL lead.
It would have been a completely different game for his team if it hadn’t been for the character and experience they displayed against Nasarawa United, according to the coach.
Coach Stanley Eguma was happy with his side’s performance against Nasarawa United as they earned a well deserved 2-1 home victory.
Chijioke Akuneto and Ishaq Kayode goals were enough to guarantee the Pride of Rivers build up a 4 point lead at the top of the NPFL table even as Michael Tochukwu’s 72nd minute goal was simply a consolation goal.
Thanks so much boss.
Very pleased to have scored my 10th goal of the season.
Like I always tell people, my goal isnβt to be the top scorer in the @LMCNPFL but to emerge as League champions at the end of the season.#WeAreRiversUnited πͺπΎπ https://t.co/tyzFDHO0lu

“It was a good game but somewhat difficult, too. We had it well in the first-half, scoring two goals. And one would have expected us to increase the tally, but they became stronger. I must give them kudos for their persistency and fighting spirit which exposed our players to a lot of fatigue, and immediately they got their goal, they got fired up,β Stanley Eguma said.
The Rivers United coach added that;
“If not for the character and experience that we showed, it would have been a different ball game entirely against us. However, I commend them for their fighting spirit, which is what the game is all about, and I must commend my players and thank God for the victory.”
