On Wednesday night, Villarreal defeated Bayern Munich 1-0 in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final match at the Estadio de la CerΓ‘mica.
Arnaut Danjuma produced the game’s sole goal in the eighth minute, deflecting a scuffed Dani Parejo drive past Manuel Neuer.
After a VAR assessment, Francis Coquelin’s second goal was disallowed for offside, and the hosts came close to extending their lead on several occasions, though the most notably was when Gerard Moreno hit the post.
