Anthony Nwakaeme’s experience shines in crucial win

After a tense and goalless first half—despite Simon Banza’s early disallowed goal for offside—Trabzonspor began to apply more pressure after the break.

The breakthrough came ten minutes into the second half when Trabzonspor were awarded a penalty.

However, Banza missed from the spot, keeping the game level.

With just 12 minutes left, Banza redeemed himself by setting up Ozan Tufan, who netted with a sensational back-heel finish to finally put Trabzonspor ahead.

Then came the moment of the match from Anthony Nwakaeme.

In the 89th minute, slipped a perfectly timed ball to Oleksandr Zubkov for his third assist of the season.

The Ukrainian midfielder made no mistake, slamming the ball into the bottom-right corner, leaving the goalkeeper rooted.

The assist capped off a solid outing from Nwakaeme, who was subbed off shortly after for Edin Višća.

With the win, Trabzonspor advance to the Turkish Cup final, where they’ll face Galatasaray—led by fellow Nigerian star Victor Osimhen.

Galatasaray reached the final after a 5-1 demolition of Konyaspor, with Osimhen scoring and assisting.

This sets up an electrifying final between two of Nigeria’s most prominent forwards in a Super Eagles derby.

Galatasaray, chasing their first Turkish Cup title since 2019, remain the tournament’s most decorated team with 18 trophies.

Trabzonspor, on the other hand, will be hunting for their 10th, having last lifted the cup in 2020 but losing last season’s final to Besiktas.

While Anthony Nwakaeme may not be scoring frequently this season—just one goal in 16 league appearances—his playmaking ability remains vital.
