Remo Stars striker Alimi Sikiru has downplayed his chances of winning the NPFL Golden Boot, insisting his priority is helping his team achieve their goals.
The Remo Stars’ sharpshooter revealed that personal accolades take a back seat to team success, despite his recent surge to the top of the NPFL scoring charts, Footballrover reports.
The striker claimed that winning the NPFL Golden Boot is not his top priority, even though he leads the top scorer list with 14 goals.
The 28-year-old forward made this claim in an exclusive interview with Footballrover on Friday evening, after their NPFL game against Niger Tornadoes in Ikenne.
Sikiru scored a brace in the match, helping his team secure a 3-0 home win over the Ikon Allah Boys on Matchday 32.

The goals came in the 28th and 31st minutes, with the first being a penalty. This performance saw him overtake Enyimba’s Chijioke Mbaoma in the Golden Boot race.
“Well, honestly, it sounds good and feels right to be there. But generally, that is not my objective,” Alimi said about topping the scoring chart.
Despite his impressive goal-scoring form, Sikiru has faced challenges this season, including injuries and a loss of form.
He had gone goalless for several matches before scoring against Akwa United on April 6, 2024.
However, he failed to score in the subsequent matches against Doma United and Plateau United
Alimi’s brace against Niger Tornadoes ended the mini-drought that saw him fail to score in these previous two matches.
With his latest goals, Sikiru now has 14 goals and 3 assists in 26 matches, sealing off his position as one of the top goal scorers in the Nigeria Premier League.

Despite this, he remains focused on helping the Ogun state-based team achieve their league title dreams and continental ticket hopes.
We “Remo Stars” have a collective target of winning the league; that is my target—maybe 20 goals—but the number of goals doesn’t matter to me; I just want to keep scoring and help my club achieve our collective goals this season,” he told footballrover.
The Sky Blue Stars will host the Pride of Rivers in their next match on Sunday, and Sikiru will be looking to continue his impressive form and help his team secure another crucial win.
