Super Eagles star Alex Iwobi has kicked off his third season at Fulham in style, grabbing an assist to inspire the team to a hard-earned 1-1 draw against Manchester United during their Premier League clash on Sunday.
The 29-year-old midfielder, who had a standout campaign last season—contributing 15 goal involvements (nine goals and six assists in 44 appearances)—has once again made an early impact, Footballrover reports.
Fulham Hold United as Alex Iwobi Shines
Iwobi provided the decisive cross that helped the home team bounce back into the game, salvaging a point against the Red Devils at Craven Cottage.
While Iwobi took the spotlight, his compatriot Calvin Bassey also impressed, putting in a solid defensive shift.
Fulham’s resilience means they have now secured back-to-back draws following their 1-1 opener with Brighton.
The first half ended goalless, with The Cottagers doing enough to frustrate Man United despite conceding a penalty.
VAR flagged Bassey for pulling Mason Mount inside the box, but Bruno Fernandes failed to convert from the spot, sparing the hosts.
Second Half Drama and Iwobi’s Decisive Contribution
The second half burst into life as Amorim’s side earned their first Premier League goal of the season.
From the right, Mbeumo’s corner deflected off Muniz and past Bernd Leno for an own goal.
But the hosts responded quickly. Fifteen minutes later, substitute Emile Smith Rowe scored with his very first touch, darting to the near post to meet Iwobi’s perfectly weighted delivery from the left.
Iwobi’s cross, curled in with his right foot, missed its initial target but fell kindly for Smith Rowe, who made no mistake in slotting home the equaliser.
Man United’s Victory Denied, Share the Spoils
In the closing stages, Jedi denied Mbeumo a one-on-one chance to preserve the draw.
With the result, both The Whites and the Red Devils remain winless after two Premier League games this season.
For Fulham, however, Alex Iwobi’s early-season brilliance shows promise as they aim to build on last impressive campaign.
