The Nigerian midfielder provided the assist for Everton’s goal in their narrow Carabao Cup second round victory on Tuesday night.

The former Arsenal academy graduate – Alex Iwobi has been performing superbly for Everton lately in his new centre midfield role and received man-of-the-match honour at the end of the game.

Thanks to the help of the 26-year-old Nigeria international, Everton claimed a narrow 1-0 win over League One side – Fleetwood to move into the third round of the Carabao Cup.

Demarai Gray scored the only goal of the game for the visitors after Alex Iwobi delivered a sharp pass to him and it proved to be the winner.

Despite not even being scheduled to start the game, the Englishman – Gray came on as a last-minute replacement for Tom Davies, who withdrew after the warm-up and produced the winner courtesy of Iwobi’s tailored pass.

In the Carabao Cup second round, Nottingham Forest advanced with a convincing 3-0 victory against League Two side – Grimsby Town.

Forest manager – Steve Cooper made 11 changes to the team that started the 1-1 Premier League tie against Everton with Emmanuel Dennis coming in to grab his new club debut on Saturday.

Emmanuel Dennis, who joined the Premier League newcomers from Watford provided an assist on his debut, as Nottingham Forest sealed a comfortably win in the Carabao Cup second round.

Sam Surridge added two goals either side of halftime to complete a resounding victory after Ryan Yates’ outstanding strike that started the scoring.

The hosts came the closest to scoring through substitute Ryan Taylor, who headed against the crossbar early in the second half.

With 15 minutes left, the former Watford star was replaced by his countryman Taiwo Awoniyi, and the former Union Berlin forward played a part in the third goal of the match.

The two Nigerian top stars put on strong performances as The Reds advanced to the League Cup third round.

The competition’s next round is slated to take place between November 8 and 9.
