Kano Pillars vs Rivers United match chaos and fan invasion

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has taken decisive action against Kano Pillars following the chaotic scenes during their home game against Rivers United.

On Sunday, April 19, 2026, the atmosphere at the stadium turned sour as the home club failed to maintain order, leading to a series of security breaches and unsporting behavior from the stands, Footballrover reports.

Kano Pillars Facing Heavy Penalties Following Match Unrest

The league’s governing body charged the club for failing to provide adequate security, which allowed unauthorised individuals to enter restricted zones.

This lack of control resulted in fans encroaching onto the pitch, directly threatening the safety of both players and officials.

Due to the repeated nature of these security failures, the club has been hit with a ₦4 million fine.

In addition to the security breach, Kano Pillars were fined another ₦3 million for unsporting conduct that brought the game into disrepute.

The NPFL emphasised that the safety of everyone involved in a match is non-negotiable, and the club’s inability to manage its supporters has led to these significant financial penalties.

Stadium Ban and Misconduct Against Match Officials

The situation worsened as supporters reportedly harassed and intimidated match officials.

This gross misconduct, which undermines the integrity of the league, resulted in multiple fines totaling ₦8 million.

These charges cover the harassment of the center referee, the disruption of play, and the general failure to ensure proper conduct by the fans.

As a result of these ugly incidents, Kano Pillars will play their next three home matches behind closed doors.

This ban starts with their final home game of the current season and extends to the first two home fixtures of the next campaign.

The club has 48 hours to appeal these sanctions, but the message from the league remains clear: violence and intimidation have no place in Nigerian football.
