Thursday was a defining moment for Ahmed Akinyele and Remo Stars as they edged closer to history in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

While the 20-year-old defender reached a career landmark, his club sealed their position at the top of the table with a crucial win, Footballrover reports.

But with a title-deciding clash on the horizon, the race isn’t over yet.

Ahmed Akinyele reaches 50 NPFL appearances in style

For Ahmed Akinyele, it was more than just another game—it was a milestone.

The young center-back, regarded as one of the league’s brightest prospects, marked his 50th NPFL appearance in Remo Stars’ commanding 2-0 victory over Enyimba at the Ikenne Stadium.

Born in Sagamu, Akinyele’s journey began with the club’s feeder team, Beyond Limits, before earning his first-team debut in September 2023.

Since then, he has made his presence felt with five NPFL goals and an assist, proving to be a key figure in the team’s title charge.

Against Enyimba, Remo Stars wasted no time asserting dominance. Adedayo Olamilekan opened the scoring in the 28th minute, setting the stage for a thrilling contest.

The visitors, unbeaten in their last five matches, fought hard for an equaliser, but the home side held firm.

In the 68th minute, substitute Samson Olasupo sealed the victory with a perfectly timed strike, sending the home crowd into jubilation.

Remo Stars edge closer to historic NPFL title

With the win, Remo Stars surged to 60 points from 30 matches, stretching their lead to eight points over second-placed Rivers United.

Their title rivals faltered with a 1-0 loss to Bayelsa United, giving the Ikenne boys the breathing space they needed.

However, the battle isn’t won yet. The Sky Blue Stars still have seven games to play, including a high-stakes showdown against Rivers United in Port Harcourt on matchday 32.

A win there could all but secure their maiden NPFL title, while a loss could throw the race wide open again.

For Akinyele and his teammates, the dream is within reach, but they must stay focused as they chase history.
