Nigerian forward David Okereke finally found the back of the net for Serie A side Cremonese, but his individual brilliance wasn’t enough to prevent a crushing defeat.
In a high-stakes five-goal thriller at the Stadio Giovanni Zini, Cremonese fell short against a dominant Fiorentina side, Footballrover reports.
David Okereke Scores First Goal in Heavy Defeat
The 28-year-old striker started the Round 29 clash on the bench but was introduced at the start of the second half to replace Morten Thorsby.
It took the Nigerian just 11 minutes to make his mark, scoring his first goal for the club since his summer move from Gaziantep FK.
Despite his clinical finish, the goal served only as a consolation.
Fiorentina’s relentless attack proved too much for the hosts, who continue to languish in the relegation zone, fighting a desperate battle for top-flight survival.
Fiorentina Dominates as Cremonese Relegation Fears Deepen
The visitors asserted their authority early, despite Cremonese’s initial threats via Federico Bonazzoli.
Fabiano Parisi opened the scoring with a sophisticated solo effort, and Roberto Piccoli soon doubled the lead following an assist from Robin Gosens.
The uphill battle turned into a mountain shortly after halftime when Dodô added a third with a brilliant individual strike.
While Okereke’s goal briefly shifted the momentum, Albert Guðmundsson eventually sealed the 5-1 victory with a composed finish.
The result extends Cremonese’s winless streak and leaves them reeling, while Fiorentina moves further away from the bottom three.
