Bendel Insurance briefly threatened with a late goal in the 89th minute, but substitute Samson Obi restored the two-goal cushion almost immediately.

Speaking after the match, Samuel reflected on his performance.

Confidence high as Pride of Rivers chase NPFL glory

Samuel has now scored three goals in two consecutive matches, a sharp contrast to last season, where he contributed mainly through assists for Heartland FC.

He went on to explain how crucial finding the back of the net is to his career.

Very, very important. I played throughout last season; I didn’t score, but I got assists. You know, in this league, if you don’t score, people don’t see you. So yeah, I’m happy I scored,” he said.

When asked about Rivers United’s title chances, Samuel’s faith was clear: “Yeah, I’m very sure. Because I have God.”

The star forward’s recent form reflects a growing trust from the coaching staff. “That’s what I’m expecting. It’s totally dependent on the coach’s decision – anything he says,” he added, speaking on his starting prospects.

With two challenging away fixtures against Shooting Stars and Ikorodu City ahead, Rivers United will hope Samuel continues his scoring streak to maintain their lead atop the NPFL table.
