Anayo Iwuala Delivers Another Beauty as Al Arabi Settle for Painful Draw in AFC Challenge League

Super Eagles forward Anayo Iwuala scores stunning goal for Al Arabi

Nigerian forward Anayo Iwuala continued his impressive form this season, finding the net once again as Al Arabi were held to a hard-fought 1–1 draw by Muras United in their AFC Challenge League Group C encounter at the Dolen Omurzakov Stadium.

The 26-year-old’s first-half strike looked set to hand Al Arabi a crucial win, but a second-half equaliser from the hosts denied them the result they needed to reach the quarter-finals, Footballrover reports.

Anayo Iwuala Shines, but Al Arabi’s Qualification Hopes Fade

Al-Arabi started brightly, dominating early possession and forcing Muras United’s goalkeeper Orest Kostyk into a reflex save after Yousef Majed’s driving run in the opening minute.

Moments later, Hamad Alharbi’s header skimmed the top of the crossbar as the Kuwaiti side pressed forward with intent.

Their persistence paid off in the 21st minute when Anayo Iwuala produced a moment of brilliance.

The Super Eagles winger danced past his marker and unleashed a curling shot from outside the box that skipped past Kostyk and rippled the net — a strike worthy of praise for the spectacular finish.

Muras rarely threatened in the first half, though they came close to equalising before the break with a stinging volley that forced a fingertip save from Sulaiman Abdulghafoor.

The second half, however, belonged to Muras. Nursultan Toktonaliev threaded a perfect through ball for Chabel Gomez, who calmly slotted home to make it 1–1 in the 55th minute.

Iwuala’s Form Offers Hope Amid Disappointment

Gomez nearly doubled his tally five minutes later, but his thunderous long-range effort crashed off the post, leaving Al Arabi clinging on.

Despite late pressure from Muras United, Anayo and his teammates held firm to secure a point — though it wasn’t enough.

The draw left both sides level on five points, but Muras advanced to the quarter-finals on superior goal difference, while Al Arabi’s campaign came to a frustrating end.

For Iwuala, there were still positives to take. His goal against Muras United marked his second in three AFC Challenge League outings, following his strike in the 2–2 draw with Al-Safa.
