Nigerian duo Anayo Iwuala and Yusuf Otubanjo delivered outstanding performances over the weekend, inspiring both Al Arabi and FC Pyunik to secure crucial league victories.
Iwuala Shines as Al Arabi Extend Winning Run
In the Kuwait Premier League, Anayo Iwuala scored his fifth goal in four games, leading Al Arabi to a convincing home victory over Al-Fahaheel, Footballrover reports.
Iwuala and his teammates came into the game on the back of a narrow 2-1 win over Al Qadisiya, where the Nigerian forward netted the opener.
In the clash against Al-Fahaheel, Iwuala once again opened the scoring and went on to complete a brace in their 3-0 win in front of home fans.
The matchday four encounter saw the Nigerian hit the back of the net twice in seven minutes, giving Al Arabi a 2-0 lead at halftime before Moroccan forward Hamza Khabba wrapped up the victory with a third goal in the second half.
Iwuala wasted no time asserting his brilliance, breaking the deadlock in the 36th minute.
Two minutes before the halftime whistle, the 25-year-old doubled his tally to hand the hosts a comfortable lead.
In the second half, Al Arabi continued their dominance, and 14 minutes in, Khabba scored the third goal to seal the win and secure all three points.
Al Arabi has now claimed four consecutive victories in the Kuwait Premier League, remaining joint-top of the table with Al-Kuwait on 12 points.
Their next fixture is a home game against Khaitan at the Sabah Al Salem Stadium on Sunday.
Otubanjo Strikes Again in Pyunik’s Away Victory
Meanwhile, in the Armenian Premier League, Yusuf Otubanjo scored for the second consecutive game as FC Pyunik earned a commanding away victory over West Armenia.
Coming off a 2-0 win against Shirak Gyumri, where Otubanjo netted the decisive goal, the Nigerian forward once again found the back of the net in Pyunik’s 3-1 triumph over West Armenia at the Junior Sport Stadium.
Brazilian forward Agdon opened the scoring just five minutes into the match, and Otubanjo doubled their advantage 33 minutes later, sending FC Pyunik into the halftime break with a 2-0 lead.
West Armenia pulled one back through Artur Danielyan 19 minutes into the second half, but Serges Deble sealed the win for Pyunik with a goal three minutes before stoppage time.
The victory places FC Pyunik in fifth position with seven points, six behind table-toppers Van, with two games in hand.
Their next match is a home fixture against BKMA in round seven at the Junior Sport Stadium on Friday.
