Super Eagles forward Nathan Tella made a brief but brilliant impact on Sunday, delivering a crucial assist against Freiburg that helped Bayer Leverkusen snatch a 2-2 draw in a gripping Bundesliga clash.
Coming on in the 71st minute, the 25-year-old only needed 19 minutes to change the course of the game, Footballrover reports.
Nathan Tella’s assist against Freiburg sparks late drama
In stoppage time, he whipped in a pinpoint cross that Jonathan Tah headed home to rescue a point for Leverkusen on his 400th appearance for the club.
It was Tella’s fourth assist of the season, taking his goal involvement tally to eight and marking his second consecutive game with an assist.
Despite Tella’s brilliance, the match signalled the end of Leverkusen’s Bundesliga title hopes.
They needed a miracle to catch Bayern Munich, but a two-goal deficit and a fired-up Freiburg side made that near-impossible.
Freiburg, gunning for a historic UEFA Champions League qualification, dominated early, with Eggestein and Adamu punishing Leverkusen’s shaky defence.
Super Eagles star’s impact overshadowed by title blow
Florian Wirtz sparked a late push with a goal in the 82nd minute, but the real turning point was Nathan Tella’s late magic.
His composure and precision gave Die Werkself one last breath—but it wasn’t enough.
The draw extended Leverkusen’s unbeaten away run to 35 league matches yet couldn’t stop Bayern from sealing their 12th title in 13 seasons.
Leverkusen may have lost the title, but they remain a strong side, while Tella also remains one of the Super Eagles’ brightest talents in Europe.
