Uchenna Kanu’s early goals and Esther Okoronkwo’s impactful performance secured a commanding lead for the nine-time African champions, solidifying their spot in the upcoming finals in Morocco next summer.

Gift Monday’s 22-yard free-kick nearly broke the deadlock in the 4th minute, Footballrover reports

However, Kanu capitalized on a goalmouth scramble from a corner kick, scoring the opener past Cape Verde’s goalkeeper, Jacinta Rodrigues.

Rodrigues denied Rasheedat Ajibade’s shot shortly after. Despite attempts from Borges and Payne for Cape Verde, Gift Monday doubled the host’s lead in the 25th minute.

The Falcons maintained their dominance after the break, with Okoronkwo extending the lead in the 67th minute and sealing an emphatic victory with another goal in the 77th minute, capitalizing on a Rofiat Imuran cross.

Following this commanding performance in the first leg, the Falcons hold a strong advantage ahead of the second leg in Praia, Cape Verde’s capital, scheduled for December 5th.
