Super Eagles forward Umar Sadiq kept his hot streak alive on Saturday, coming off the bench to grab a dramatic late equaliser at Rayo Vallecano as Valencia battled to a 1-1 draw in La Liga.
Valencia trailed due to a César Tárrega own goal just before halftime, but the visitors found their hero in the 71st minute when Umar Sadiq’s initial shot struck the post and he reacted quickest to bury the rebound, Footballrover reports.
It was his fifth La Liga goal for Valencia and ninth in all competitions this season.
Umar Sadiq makes immediate impact after substitution
The 28-year-old striker, on loan from Real Sociedad, entered the fray in the 66th minute and made his presence felt almost instantly.
He fired two shots, one hitting the woodwork, and showed the clinical edge that has made him a key attacking option for the Mestalla side.
His tally now includes three goals for Real Sociedad in La Liga, one in the Copa del Rey for Valencia, and five league goals with Los Che since joining on loan.
Rayo Vallecano left to regret missed chances
Rayo had hoped to break into La Liga’s top eight with a home win but extended their winless streak at the Estadio de Vallecas to five matches (D3, L2).
They managed only a few real chances, with Giorgi Mamardashvili making key saves to keep Valencia in the game.
After Rafa Mir squandered a golden chance from six yards out, it was Umar Sadiq’s late equaliser at Rayo Vallecano that salvaged a point and dashed the hosts’ European hopes.
Valencia remain midtable, but with Umar Sadiq in form, their attacking threat grows with every match.
