Tolu Arokodare delivered a man-of-the-match performance in KRC Genk’s 2-0 victory over Anderlecht at the Cegeka Arena on Sunday, reinforcing his crucial role in the team’s pursuit of the Belgium Pro League title.
The Nigerian forward scored the opening goal and provided an assist, helping Genk secure an important three points, Footballrover reports.
Arokodare opens scoring in first half
The match began with a determined Genk side eager to bounce back from a 2-0 defeat to Club Brugge KV.
Arokodare wasted no time in making his mark, scoring the opening goal in the 29th minute.
A well-timed cutback from Ibrahima Bangoura set the Nigerian forward up perfectly in front of goal, allowing him to calmly finish and give Genk the lead.
Tolu’s assist secures Genk’s win
The Super Eagles hopeful continued his impressive display, providing the assist for Genk’s second goal.
In the 72nd minute, he neatly teed up Konstantinos Karetsas inside the box, who coolly slotted the ball into the net to seal the victory.
Arokodare’s strong season continues
With this performance, Tolu Arokodare now has 11 goals in 19 league appearances this season, just one shy of his total from last season.
His contribution was vital in securing Genk’s third win in their last five matches, keeping them at the top of the league standings with 41 points from 19 games.
Looking ahead, Genk will turn their focus to their next fixture, an away clash with Antwerp on Boxing Day, as they aim to maintain their position at the summit of the Belgium Pro League.
