RSC Anderlecht manager David Hubert has sent a clear warning ahead of their Jupiler Pro-League clash with Racing Genk while singling out Nigerian striker Tolu Arokodare as a major threat.
The game, set to take place at the Cegeka Arena on Sunday afternoon, promises to be a battle of tactics as Anderlecht aims to contain Genk’s main threat, Footballrover reports.
Tolu Arokodare: Genk’s prolific ‘power weapon’
Tolu Arokodare has been a solid performer in the Belgian top flight this season, establishing himself as one of the league’s most dangerous strikers.
With 10 goals to his name, he ranks second in the Jupiler Pro-League scoring charts, trailing only Kasper Dolberg by two goals.
His exploits have been crucial in Genk’s pursuit of their first league title since the 2018/2019 campaign.
Despite missing a penalty in Genk’s 2-0 defeat to Club Brugge last weekend, Arokodare remains a key figure in Genk’s attack.
The Nigerian striker’s brace against the same team during last season’s playoffs serves as a stark reminder of his ability to dismantle defences.
Anderlecht’s tactical response
Speaking at a pre-match press conference, Anderlecht manager David Hubert highlighted the importance of containing Tolu.
“A striker with so much power is one of their weapons, yes,” Hubert remarked.
Drawing comparisons to Porto’s Nigerian forward Samuel Aghehowa Omorodion, whom Anderlecht successfully neutralised in the UEFA Europa League, Hubert expressed confidence in his team’s defensive plan.
“Fortunately, we have played against such a profile regularly in recent weeks. Look at Samu from Porto as an example. Of course, we have a plan to block Tolu,” Hubert added, as quoted by Voetbalprimeur.
Arokodare’s future amid speculation
While transfer rumours have linked Tolu with a move away from Genk, such an exit appears unlikely in the immediate future.
For now, all eyes are on Sunday’s clash, where the Nigerian striker will look to add to his impressive tally and lead Genk closer to league glory.
Will Anderlecht’s plan succeed, or will Tolu Arokodare prove unstoppable once again?
Fans won’t have to wait long to find out, obviously.
