Super Eagles forward Terem Moffi found the net once more, but his effort could not prevent OGC Nice from falling 2-1 to AS Roma in their Europa League opener on Wednesday night at the Allianz Riviera.
The Nigerian striker came off the bench to score a late penalty, offering a glimmer of hope, yet Roma’s clinical finishing proved decisive. Footballrover reports.
Terem Moffi’s goal gives Nice late lifeline
Moffi, 26, has now scored in back-to-back games for Nice and three times already this season.
His coolly taken penalty in the 82nd minute briefly lifted the home crowd after Antoine Mendy was brought down by Niccolò Pisilli.
Despite the late spark, the forward’s contribution mirrored his display in the Ligue 1 defeat to Brest last weekend — another goal in a losing effort.
For all his sharpness in front of goal, Moffi’s strikes have not yet translated into points for Les Aiglons.
Roma punish lapses as Moffi shines in vain
Nice were undone earlier in the match by two quick goals.
Evan Ndicka opened the scoring before Gianluca Mancini doubled Roma’s advantage, exposing defensive lapses that left Francesco Farioli’s side chasing the game.
For much of the contest, Moffi was isolated, starved of service, and forced to work against a disciplined Roma backline marshalled by Mancini.
Yet when his chance came from the spot, he delivered with composure — reaffirming his role as Nice’s most reliable finisher.
The defeat stretched Nice’s winless European run to 13 matches, casting a shadow over their campaign.
Still, Moffi’s ability to make the difference in key moments remains a vital thread of hope for the French side.
