Nigerian female footballers are seriously blowing hot these days and winning titles across the globe, and this time, it was Super Falcons stars who took centre stage in Mexico.
Osinachi Ohale, Chinwendu Ihezuo, and Ayooluwa Oke were all part of the history-making Pachuca side that clinched their first-ever Liga MX Femenil title, while Chidinma Okeke ended up with a silver medal after a gripping finale with Club América, Footballrover reports.
Despite losing the second leg 2-0 to Club América at the iconic Estadio Azteca, Pachuca held firm, relying on their first-leg advantage to seal a dramatic 3-2 aggregate win in the Clausura 2025 playoffs final.
It was an evening filled with tension, emotion, and unforgettable moments as the Tuzas finally broke their finals curse.
Super Falcons stars shine in historic Pachuca success
Pachuca’s road to glory wasn’t easy. Irene Guerrero opened the scoring for América in the 37th minute, sending tension through the crowd.
Ten minutes into the second half, Scarlett Camberos made it 2-0, swinging the momentum fully in the hosts’ favour.
Things took a darker turn for Pachuca when Daniela Flores was shown a second yellow card in the 70th minute, reducing the visitors to ten players.
But with grit and resilience, they clung to their slender first-leg advantage and kept América at bay to secure a long-awaited Liga MX Femenil title.
This marked Pachuca’s first championship victory after three heartbreaking final defeats.
From finishing second in the regular season to enduring América’s attacking onslaught, the team’s journey was nothing short of epic.
Ohale, Ihezuo, and Oke claim gold—Okeke falls just short
The victory was extra sweet for the Super Falcons stars. Veteran defender Osinachi Ohale, 33, featured in 38 matches for Pachuca this season and found the net three times, providing leadership and experience at the back.
Chinwendu Ihezuo, 28, delivered once again for the club, scoring 15 goals in 39 games—matching her goal tally from the previous season despite playing more matches.
Her consistency and firepower were key components in Pachuca’s title charge.
Ayooluwa Oke, the 22-year-old defender eligible for the Super Falcons, also played her part, appearing in 19 games and scoring once.
Though she’s represented the USA at youth level, her future at the senior level remains wide open.
On the other side, Chidinma Okeke, 24, was a standout for Club América, making 28 appearances and scoring four goals this season.
Despite her strong performances, she had to settle for a silver medal.
