The Super Falcons’ forward, Uchenna Kanu, has hit the ground running, finding the back of the net for Racing Louisville in their opening match of the new NWSL season over the weekend.
Her impressive performance saw her team secure a 2-2 draw in a thrilling encounter on Sunday, Footballrover reports.
The Nigerian starlet delivered a crucial goal, giving her side a commanding 2-0 lead early in the game.
However, despite their promising start, Racing Louisville had to settle for a draw as the visitors fought back, levelling the scoreline.
The game saw Elexa Marie Bahr and Kanu set the pace with goals within the first 20 minutes.
Yet, the momentum shifted when the visiting team capitalised on an own goal by Elli Pikkujamsa, narrowing the lead to 2-1.
The match took a dramatic turn when Kylie Strom received her marching orders, leaving Racing Louisville with ten players on the field.
Despite the setback, the resilient visitors pressed on, eventually equalising in the dying minutes through Summer Yates.
Kanu’s impactful performance earned her praise, though her substitution shortly after the equaliser marked the end of her contributions for the day.
Nonetheless, her debut NWSL regular-season goal left her thrilled and eager for more opportunities ahead.
“I’m excited to get my first goal at the start of the season. Kudos to Elexa [teammate], who was there taking the runs, making the passes, and making the cross. I was just there at the right time. I always want to join the attacks; good thing she made the pass to me,” she told the club media.
Despite the draw, Racing Louisville and Kanu remain optimistic for the season ahead.
Currently sitting in 7th place, they are level on points with the Orlando Pride, setting the stage for an exciting and competitive season in the National Women’s Soccer League.
