England Women’s Super League side, Everton have secured the services of Super Falcons star Toni Payne from Spanish side Sevilla.
The 29-year-old versatile attacker becomes the Toffees’ first signing of the summer, marking a significant boost to Brian Sorensen’s side, Footballrover reports.
Payne expressed her delight at joining the Merseyside club on a free transfer, revealing that playing in the Women’s Super League (WSL) has been a long-held ambition.
“I’m super excited to be an Everton player. It’s been my dream to play in the UK and in such a strong league like the WSL,” Payne told Everton TV.
The Super Falcons star, who boasts 21 caps for Nigeria, was part of the team that reached the round of 16 at the recent FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
Her experience of facing top-tier English talent during the tournament further ignited her desire to join the WSL.
The Alabama-born super star arrives at Everton after she managed to find the net for Sevilla six times in her 30 appearances last season while also providing four goals.
The Nigerian international was impressed by the league’s rapid development and investment, and she’s eager to contribute to the club’s success.
With her proven goal-scoring ability and versatility, Payne is expected to be a valuable asset to Everton as they look to make history together in the WSL.
