Nigerian duo Christian Nwachukwu and Anthony Ujah were the architects of Botev Plovdiv’s thrilling escape to the Europa League second qualifying round.
The dynamic duo produced a masterclass performance, dismantling Maribor with clinical precision and unmatched determination, Footballrover reports.
Their contributions were crucial as Botev Plovdiv overturned a one-goal deficit to secure a dramatic 4-3 aggregate victory.
Botev Plovdiv’s Europa League playoff featured four Nigerians: Christian Nwachukwu, Anthony Ujah, Samuel Akere, and Ehije Ukaki.
Christian Nwachukwu scored one and assisted another, while Anthony Ujah also found the net to help Botev Plovdiv advance to the Europa League’s second qualifying round over Maribor.
Jan Repas put Maribor up after just 13 minutes, and the first half finished that way.
However, the game came to life in the second period, when Nwachukwu replaced Nikola Iliev after the restart.
He rewarded the coach for his fate in him just a minutes after coming into the game, combining with Ivelin Popov to level the scores.
Nwachukwu quickly turned from goal scorer to assist king, passing the ball to his Nigerian counterpart, Anthony Ujah, who wasted no time in handing his team the lead.

Nine minutes after that goal, Nigerian midfielder Samuel Akere made way for another Nigerian defender, Ehije Ukaki, to also be part of the game.
But then, the substitution did not influence the outcome of the game; rather, the home team levelled the scores.
Etienne Beugre restored his side’s parity in the 80th minute, and the game finished there.
A 2-2 draw was the final scoreline, despite the fact that the home team had 60% possession and the visitors only had 40%.
