Nigerian forward William Agada has continued his impressive run for Sporting Kansas City, yet he couldn’t help but watch his team fall to a narrow away defeat to Vancouver on Thursday.
William Agada’s outing at BC Place turned from hero to heartbreak as his eighth league goal of the season proved to be a mere consolation, Footballrover reports.
The Nigerian striker managed to register his name on the scoresheet, but it was a fleeting moment of glory as Sporting Kansas City succumbed to a heartbreaking 2-1 defeat at the hands of Vancouver.
The evenly matched teams battled it out from the opening whistle of the MLS game.
However, the game took a dramatic turn in the 34th minute when Kansas City defender Robert Voloder unfortunately deflected the ball into his own net, giving the home side a surprising early lead.
Sporting Kansas City fought back resolutely and managed to equalise through a goal from Agada in the 69th minute.
It’s four goals in four games for the in-form William Agada, whose three goals led Sporting Kansas City to a convincing home and away victory over FC Dallas in the U.S. Open Cup quarterfinal stage.
The 24-year-old Nigerian forward has made over 24 appearances for Kansas City, scoring more than eight goals and assisting on only two occasions.
But then, the home team proved to be the more clinical side, as veteran forward Fafa Picault, 33, secured the win with just 14 minutes remaining.
His well-taken goal, assisted by a combination play involving Sebastian Berhalter and Andres Cubas, sealed the deal.
The host team had 56% possession compared to 44% for Sporting. Although the visitors had more shots on target (18, 8 on target), the home team had 14 with only four on target.
The result propels Vancouver to fourth place with 38 points, while William Agada and his teammates fall to 12th with 23 points in the Western Conference standings.
