Nigerian Winger Kazeem Olaigbe was the toast of Cercle Brugge on Sunday as they hammered Beerschot VA 4-1 in the Belgian Jupiler League.
The 21-year-old winger finally got his name on the scoresheet for the season, netting his first league goal for the club, Footballrover reports.
It was a day of celebration for Brugge, and the party started early when Brazilian magician Bruninho opened the scoring in the 10th minute.
Just 12 minutes later, Olaigbe doubled the lead with a sizzling finish that left the Beerschot keeper rooted to the spot.
Beerschot pulled one back through Simion Michez, but their joy was short-lived as Togolese forward Ahoueke Steeve Kevin Denkey restored Brugge’s two-goal cushion before halftime.
The second half was a mere formality for the visitors as Brugge continued to dominate.
Abdoul Kader Ouattara then wrapped up the scoring just before stoppage time to seal the win and all three points to the cheers of the home fans.
That victory was their first three league games so far.
Olaigbe only saw 59 minutes of action and was replaced by Alan Minda after a solid performance as the win propels Brugge up to 10th in the league table.
Next up for Olaigbe and his teammates is a crucial Europa League qualifier against Molde at the Jan Breydel Stadion on Thursday.
Can they carry this winning momentum into European competition?
The former Anderlecht youth product, who extended his Southampton contract in 2022, has represented Belgium at various youth levels.
