Nigeria’s Super Eagles are preparing for a decisive battle as they are set to face South Africa in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Tuesday, September 9, at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein.

With South Africa sitting top of Group C, Fulham star Samuel Chukwueze has voiced strong belief in Nigeria’s ability to deliver on the big stage, Footballrover reports.

Chukwueze, who recently joined the Premier League side on loan from AC Milan, may have been an unused substitute in the Eagles’ narrow 1-0 win over Rwanda, but his voice remains one of the strongest within the squad.

Acknowledging the challenge ahead, the winger praised Bafana Bafana’s quality while backing Nigeria’s strength.

— “South Africa is a strong team. They have a good team also. They are first in the group,” Chukwueze said.

Yet, he quickly underlined Nigeria’s resolve.

— “We are Nigerian, so we have a good team also. So we can compete with them.”

The Fulham new star stressed that belief and concentration will be vital as the Eagles chase a positive result in Bloemfontein.

— “I think by the grace of God we want a good result here, and that’s the most important thing for us to come here; we are looking forward to that.”

Speaking directly to fans, Chukwueze urged Nigerians to rally behind the team, stressing that unity from home support plays a crucial role in such high-stakes encounters.

— “We’ll be at the World Cup 100% sure, but we all just need all Nigerian support for us. It’s not only one person now rooting for us. But it’s up to us to make it.”

No Osimhen, No Problem? Super Eagles Still Believe

The Eagles will be without star striker Victor Osimhen, who is sidelined with a foot injury. Still, Chukwueze expressed confidence in the team’s depth and wealth of talent.

— “I believe in this team. We have so many great talents, and we have to qualify. That’s the most important thing,” he concluded.

With such optimism from the new Premier League star, Nigeria will look to rise above the challenge in Group C and keep their World Cup dream alive.
