Odion Ighalo’s late goal was not enough to rescue all three points for his team after putting out a strong display in the Saudi Professional League, netting what seemed to be the match-winning goal for Al Wehda.
However, despite his efforts, the team let a potential victory slip through their fingers in a dramatic 2-2 draw against Al Feiha on Thursday night, Footballrover reports.
The Nigerian striker, eager to help his team recover from their recent slump, gave Al Wehda the lead late in the second half.
But a late equaliser from the visitors dashed any hopes of a much-needed win for the home side at King Abdul Aziz Stadium.
Ighalo strikes, but Al Wehda’s woes continue
The match kicked off with Al Wehda taking the upper hand early on, as Meshal Al Alaeli scored within the opening four minutes.
Despite dominating much of the first half, the team couldn’t extend their lead before the break.
Al Feiha seemed determined to turn things around, and they thought they had equalised, only for the goal to be ruled offside.
The pressure finally paid off in the 74th minute when Alejandro Pozuelo found the back of the net, tying the game.
Ighalo, however, had other plans. Eight minutes later, he pounced on an opportunity to restore Al Wehda’s advantage, scoring his second goal of the season.
With just minutes left in the game, the former Manchester United forward was substituted after a solid performance that included 22 touches, 11 accurate passes, and four shots, two of which were on target.
Heartbreak in extra time as Al Wehda drops points again
Just when it seemed like Ighalo’s strike would be enough to end Al Wehda’s winless run, disaster struck.
In stoppage time, a penalty was awarded to Al Feiha, and Fashion Sakala calmly converted from the spot, levelling the match at 2-2.
With this result, Al Wehda’s struggles persist, as they remain winless in their last five outings, with three losses and two draws.
The team will now turn their attention to their next challenge against Al-Raed on Saturday, hoping to finally secure a victory and halt their downward spiral.
