Super Eagles invitee Igoh Ogbu delivered a standout performance for his team Slavia Prague over the weekend, earning high praise from his coach.
The defender, known for his dominance in duels, not only helped secure a convincing win but also achieved a rare career milestone, Footballrover reports.
Super Eagles invitee’s rare goal sparks praise
The highly-rated center-back was instrumental in his Slavia Prague’s commanding 3-0 victory over Jablonec on Sunday night.
In the ninth minute, he capitalised on a misplaced pass from the opposition goalkeeper, kept his composure, and calmly slotted the ball into the net with his left foot—his first-ever professional goal with that foot.
Before this game, nine of his ten career goals had come from headers, with only one right-footed finish recorded in 2022.
His coach Jindřich Trpišovský acknowledged the significance of the moment, emphasising how rare it was for the new Super Eagles invitee to score in this manner.
Igoh Ogbu: A complete player growing in value
Beyond his defensive brilliance, the Nigerian defender has recently shown a newfound confidence in attack, scoring twice in his last three appearances.
Jindřich Trpišovský believes Ogbu is evolving into a complete player, excelling in multiple aspects of the game.
“Igoh usually defends the opponent’s best player and can be dominant in duels. He has calmed down recently, feels good and I think it was his first goal with his left foot in his career,” Trpišovský told the club’s official website.
He further noted that the defender’s market value is currently underestimated, arguing that if he played in a bigger league, he would be valued much higher.
“He is extremely important for us and his performances definitely exceed his current price tag. If he played in a foreign league, his value would be much higher. He has become a complete player,” the coach noted.
