Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey was a major casualty in the 2023/24 English Premier League Round 3 clash between Arsenal and Fulham at Emirates Stadium, London as he was red carded during Saturday encounter.
Bassey was given a marching order by match referee Paul Tierney for foul play in the 83rd minute of the second half.
He had earlier received a warning from the referee in the 50th minute for time-wasting. Andreas Pereira gave Fulham an early away lead with the first goal in the first minute of the first half of the match.
Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta substituted attacking midfielder Leandro Trossard with Edward Nketiah in the 46th minute after the first half ended 1-0 in favour of Fulham.
Bukayo Saka drew Arsenal level at 1-1 in the 70th minute of the second half before substitute Edward Nketiah increased the tally to 2-1 two minutes later in the 72nd minute of the half.
In the 87th minute of the second half, Joao Palhinha drew Fulham 2-2 with a Harrison Reed assist.
An 88th-minute substitution by Fulham with the introduction of Nigerian-born Tosin Adarabiyo in place of Bobby Decordova Reid did not change the course of the game, as the match ended 2-2.
The draw leaves Arsenal in second place with 7 points after three league matches, behind Tottenham Hotspur with the same number of points.
Fulham is 11th with 4 points after three matches.
At Goodison Park, Liverpool, England, Alex Iwobi’s Everton lost 0-1 at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Sasa Kalajdzic made all the difference for Wolverhampton Wanderers by scoring a late goal in the 87th minute of the second half of the match.
It’s Everton’s third consecutive loss in a row since the beginning of the 2023–2024 English Premier League season after narrowly escaping relegation last season.
