In a thrilling Nigeria Premier League match on Sunday, Sikiru Alimi scored his 15th goal of the season for Remo Stars, but it wasn’t enough to secure a point for his team against Lobi Stars.
Despite his best efforts, Remo Stars suffered a crushing 3-2 defeat at the hands of Makurdi Boys in Lafia City, shattering their dreams of winning the NPFL title for the first time, Footballrover reports.
The match got off to a rapid start, with Christian Izuchukwu scoring for Lobi Stars just six minutes in.
The hosts continued to dominate, with Sunday Chinedu expertly heading the ball past goalkeeper Vincent Edafe from a corner kick to double their lead.
Sikiru Alimi, who was not part of the starting lineup, was introduced in the 43rd minute to replace Olamilekan Adams.
He made an instant impact; barely a minute on the pitch, he repaid his manager’s faith by scoring before halftime to reduce the deficit and bring his tally to 15 goals for the season.
The Pride of Benue went into the break with a 2-1 lead, but the Sky Blue Stars remained competitive, pushing for an equaliser in the second period of the game.
Both teams created chances in the second half, but neither could find the back of the net until the 85th minute, when Lobi Stars scored again to regain their two-goal advantage.
Sunday Chinedu’s own goal in the 88th minute gave Remo Stars a glimmer of hope, but it was too little, too late, as Lobi Stars held on for the win.

The defeat leaves Remo Stars in third place, four points ahead of fourth-placed Lobi Stars, and dents their title aspirations.
Despite the loss, Sikiru Alimi’s impressive Golden Boot chace continues, as he regain his joint-top scorer spot with his scoring spree for Daniel Ogunmodede’s side.
