Enyimba FC may have bagged all three points at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium, but their coach, Stanley Eguma, remains far from satisfied.
Despite a narrow 1-0 win over Lobi Stars in an intense NPFL encounter, Eguma insists the People’s Elephant are still a work in progress, Footballrover reports.
Enyimba boss not satisfied despite victory
Ifeanyi Ihemekwele’s clinical strike, created by Ufere Chinedu’s brilliant vision, secured the win for Enyimba.
However, the game was far from flawless. Striker Joseph Atule missed two prime opportunities, and debutant Michael Nelson also squandered a sitter after coming off the bench.
These missed chances left Enyimba vulnerable to a possible Lobi Stars comeback, but the defence, led by stand-in captain and CHAN Eagles goalkeeper, held firm for a rare clean sheet.
Lobi Stars provide tough challenge, but Enyimba remains unimpressed
After the match, Eguma praised his team for the hard-fought victory but emphasised the need for improvement.
“We are not happy with our position on the log. We have to do something to move up. I am happy we moved a bit with this win, and I congratulate the players for their effort. But we need to push harder in upcoming games to ensure a steady climb,” Eguma stated.
While the win boosted Enyimba’s position in the NPFL standings, the coach acknowledged their progress is still in its infancy, pointing out that each game presents different challenges.
Enyimba must continue pushing for greater consistency if they want to climb higher in the league.
Their next match against struggling Akwa United will be crucial in determining whether Eguma’s “work in progress” can start to yield more polished performances.
