Semi Ajayi delivered a decisive performance for Hull City, scoring his first goal for the club in a 2-1 away victory over Stoke City.

The Nigerian defender made his sixth start in nine appearances and used the moment to show off his improving form ahead of AFCON 2025, Footballrover reports.

Hull City were forced to dig deep after Sorba Thomas opened the scoring with a brilliant 17th-minute strike for the hosts.

Stoke controlled much of the first half, but Ajayi shifted the momentum early in the second period.

The Super Eagles defender powered in a 47th-minute header that levelled the game, though Stoke players protested for a foul in the build-up. The goal stood, giving Hull the platform they needed to push for a late winner.

But the 32-year-old responded with composure, organising Hull’s back line and stepping up with the crucial equaliser. His first Hull City goal came at a vital time in a tight promotion race.

Tensions boiled over at the final whistle as players from both teams exchanged words following Hull’s celebrations. Objects were thrown from the stands, but order was eventually restored.
