Nigerian trio of Kelechi Iheanacho, Wilfred Ndidi, and Fred Onyedinma displayed stunning performances on the field as former Premier League side, Leicester City, secured a decisive 2-1 away victory against Rotherham United in their Championship league clash on Saturday.
Although only the Super Eagles duo from Leicester City gained the spotlight due to their triumphant performance, it was a different story for Fred Onyedinma and his Rotherham team, who faced a disappointing loss on their home turf.
The game kicked off with a promising start for Leicester City, with Kasey McAteer finding the net just twelve minutes into the match, courtesy of an assist from Kelechi Iheanacho’s precise cross from the left flank.
Throughout the match, the Foxes took charge of the field, creating numerous opportunities. However, their inability to convert these chances left them with only a single-goal advantage at halftime.
The second half brought a twist as Fred Onyedinma displayed his aerial prowess by heading the ball past goalkeeper Mads Hermansen, restoring parity for Rotterdam United just eight minutes into the half.
In the 59th minute, Kelechi Iheanacho made way for Jamie Vardy, while Wilfred Ndidi was also substituted, giving way to Cesare Casadei, a new loanee from Chelsea, with twenty-two minutes left on the clock.
A moment of brilliance emerged from McAteer once again, this time from the right flank, as he skillfully hammered the ball into the top left corner, securing a 75th-minute lead for the Enzo Maresca’s side.
Leicester City managed to maintain their advantage, clinching a crucial victory at the Aesseal New York City Stadium.
This remarkable win marked a historic achievement for the club as they celebrated four consecutive league victories at the start of an English league season for the very first time.
The Super Eagles stars, Iheanacho and Ndidi, found themselves amidst transfer speculations following Leicester City’s relegation from the Premier League last season.
However, they have proven to be indispensable assets to the team, showcasing their prowess in every match this season.
The future of Iheanacho and Ndidi at the King Power Stadium remains uncertain, with ongoing speculation about potential moves away from the club before the transfer window closes.
In the meantime, these Nigerian Internationals eagerly anticipate their call-up for Nigeria’s upcoming match against Sao Tome and Principe, which marks the nation’s final Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixture early in the following month.
