Rivers United ended their home campaign this season with an unbeaten record after a resounding victory over their rivals from Gombe, Doma United, in their NPFL encounter on Thursday afternoon.
The Stanley Eguma team maintained their impressive run of success at home with a convincing 2-0 victory over the NPFL newcomers at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium,
With only three draws on the road to their name, Doma United came into this match hoping to record their first away victory in Nigeria’s top division, but failed to do so.
The home team claimed all three points after the final whistle courtesy of two first-half goals from Nyima Nwagua and Albert Korvah.
Both teams started the game slowly, with Rivers United appearing to be gathering more confidence by the day.
However, Rivers United quickly established their dominance just 19 minutes on the clock after Onoja Joseph and Nyima Nwagua teamed up superbly to score the game’s first goal.
Before Albert Korvah scored his third goal of the season with a screamer two minutes before halftime to double the lead for the home team.
The Port Harcourt outfit maintained their two-goal advantage till the final whistle as their opponents were unable to match their tempo and tenacity.
With the victory, Rivers United have succeeded in wrapping up the regular season unbeaten at home and also preserved the top spot in group B.
The Pride of Rivers are now three points clear at the top of the table and their final game of the season will be a visit to Enugu Rangers, who are aiming to avoid falling into relegation.
