Greg Ikhenoba, the coach of Bendel Insurance, has pointed to his team’s 3-1 defeat against former league champions Akwa United as a consequence of his defenders’ lack of concentration.
Coach Ikhenoba voiced his disappointment in a post-match interview at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium following the Match Day 25 fixture of the Nigeria Premier League, stating that he had expected his players to rise to the occasion but their performance let him down.
Despite the defeat, Coach Ikhenoba refrained from expressing overt disappointment, acknowledging the unpredictable nature of the sport.
It didn't go our way today,we missed the services of our defense Marshal Sunday Anyanwu and midfield super star Divine Nwachukwu. We will surely bounce back… Adaaa… Bendel… pic.twitter.com/nKLZYZ4XwX

However, he emphasised the need for his team to learn from the experience in preparation for future matches.
“I expected the host team to fight for their lives, and they did, but unfortunately, my boys didn’t do enough,” he said.
The encounter saw both teams evenly matched until the 22nd minute, when Ubong Friday capitalised on a defensive lapse to put Akwa United ahead.
Within a span of three minutes, Slicky Sanni Suleiman doubled the lead for the home side, taking advantage of another defensive error.
Despite a spirited effort from Bendel Insurance, Zaidu Ayuba’s goal shortly before halftime was not enough to salvage a result for the visiting side.

The defeat leaves Bendel Insurance with 34 points after 25 games, and they will look to bounce back when they host Doma United on Match Day 26 in Benin.
Akwa United’s victory extends their advantage over Bendel Insurance to four points this season, having secured a goalless draw in the reverse fixture earlier in the campaign.
