Held on Friday, April 5th, 2025, the mentorship event brought together some of the brightest minds in the local sports media space.
Hosted inside the Faculty’s Auditorium, it was more than just a program—it was a gateway for RSU final-year students to explore the exciting and fast-paced world of Sports Journalism.
With over a hundred students in attendance, the gathering saw respected dignitaries in the field, including the Dean of the Faculty, Professor R. N. Amadi, and Professor Joseph Vipene, the University’s Director of Sports.
Also present was Dr. Justice Njoku, Acting Head of the Department of Public Relations and Advertising, who added academic weight to the event’s insightful discussions.
Chairman of Rivers SWAN, Mr. Cyril Dum Wite, energised the students with his keynote address, laying bare the vast opportunities and fulfilling paths available in Sports Writing.
His words were a rallying cry for those dreaming of making their mark with a pen—or keyboard—in the sports media landscape.

Their stories weren’t just informative—they were magnetic. Each speaker left the students more eager and inspired than before.
Evangelist Obum Akawor, Chairman of the Anniversary Committee, closed the event with heartfelt thanks, applauding both the mentors and students for embracing the learning opportunity.
The celebration will now continue with a novelty football match between Rivers SWAN and Trans Amadi Professionals (TAP) FC on Saturday, April 5th at the First Aluminum Pitch, Port Harcourt.
The final activity will be a heartfelt visit to an orphanage on Sunday, April 6th, wrapping up an anniversary worth remembering.
