Jules Kounde, a recent addition to Barcelona squad, has now disclosed the primary factor that motivated him to choose the Spanish club over Premier League side – Chelsea.

Jules Kounde has acknowledged that the Blaugrana’s manager, Xavi, had a significant influence on his decision to go with them over Chelsea.

Following the club’s announcement of an agreement with Sevilla on Thursday afternoon, Jules Koundé was formally unveiled as Barcelona’s fifth acquisition of the summer.

Kounde and Sevilla had full agreements with the Thomas Tuchel side earlier this month, but the center-back postponed making a choice to give Barcelona time to match the Blues’ offer. Kounde finally decided to switch to Camp Nou once the financial details were in order.

Kounde spoke to Barca TV after his transfer really became official to commend Xavi for the part he played in bringing the drawn-out process to an end.

Shortly after arriving at Camp Nou, the French center-back held a quick interview with the club’s official channel and praised his new teammates and coach.

“Xavi is largely responsible for the decision. His speech excited me. I spoke several times with him. The conversations were very fluid and he gave me the feeling that we see football in the same way. I’m going to come and hopefully do my best to play a leading role for this club” – Kounde admitted.

The 23-year-old defender added;

“I’m very proud, grateful and excited because I have arrived at a very big club with a team that is also like that. I want to start playing with the team and join my team-mates as soon as possible. Sevilla are a great club but Barcelona is one more step in my career on every level, especially sporting. I will try to win as many titles as possible.“

Jules Kounde has now joined a group of center-backs at Barcelona that also includes Ronald Araujo, Gerard Pique, Eric Garcia and Andreas Christensen from Chelsea.
