Chelsea will be grateful to their star man Raheem Sterling for his man-of-the-match performance during their Premier League encounter against Nottingham Forest, even though it ended all square at Stamford Bridge.

Nottingham Forest came from behind to secure a 2-2 draw.

The former Manchester City winger was nearly leading the Frank Lampard team to victory before Taiwo Awoniyi produced his second headed goal of the game early in the second half to cancel out Raheem Sterling’s own brace.

With two goals in the space of seven minutes and one significant opportunity created, Sterling appeared to have reversed the tide for Chelsea, but Awoniyi had a different plan.

The former Liverpool player successfully completed four of his eight dribbles, giving him five shots overall from seven touches in the Forest box.

Sterling was the main shining star in Chelsea’s stymied attack, winning half of his 16 duels and gaining control of the four times through two precise tackles as well as a clearance, and a free-kick.

His position in Chelsea’s starting lineup for the upcoming season should be secured thanks to performances like that, especially with major squad turnover expected.

The player of the match was obviously the English star, who obtained the highest rating of all players on both sides—an 8.9—shortly after the game.

Moving up the table with a point apiece proves challenging for either side.

Chelsea, whose league campaign has now essentially ended, is tied for 11th place with Crystal Palace in terms of points.

On the other hand, Forest squandered the opportunity to move five points clear of the bottom three.

The distance between Forest and Leeds United has grown to three points despite the fact that Everton and Leicester City, who are one and three places behind them, respectively, still have a game to play in this matchweek.
