The brilliant midfielder scored his 10th goal of the season against Plateau United, marking the 7th time in his career that Ali has reached double digits in NPFL goals, Footballrover reports.

With that goal, he has now contributed 16 goals to Pillars NPFL campaign. With six assists and ten goals this season, the midfielder has been so productive.

That’s a remarkable number for a 43-year-old, given that the NPFL is one of the toughest leagues in the world.

Kano Pillars opened the scoring when both sides met at the Jos International Stadium on Saturday, but Plateau United rallied from behind to salvage a 1-1 draw at the end of the final whistle.

The first half of the Northern Derby ended goalless, leaving fans at the edge of their seats heading into the second period.

Barely 17 minutes after the interval, Rabiu Ali fired Kano Pillars ahead to the surprise of the home fans, but Plateau United quickly responded with a goal from Paul Dayop two minutes later to seal off a share of the spoils.

The result left Rabiu Ali and his teammates just a few metres away from the drop zone, with 49 points and a game left to close the curtain on the season.

Kano Pillars will be hosting Lobi Stars in the last tussle of the season, and the Sunday Derby clash at the General Sani Abacha Stadium is expected to be an exciting one.

Could it be the last game for Rabiu Ali after 14 years in the Nigeria Premier League?

Recall that the team publicly revealed earlier in the season that they were developing a new crop of players to take his place upon retirement?

The head coach of the team then, Abdulahi Maikaba, also hinted that the famous player would think about retiring by the end of the 2023–24 NPFL season.

Once I decide to drop my boots, I’m going into business because I’ve already set myself up for that. I want to stay with my family so they can see me. Most of the time we travel and they don’t see me for days. I don’t wanna go into coaching for now but God knows,” the Super Captain was quoted late last year.

Even at his age, Ali still defies expectations, encouraging a new generation of players and guiding his squad with outstanding performances.
