Just after being crowned the King of Africa in less than 24 hours as the CAF African Footballer of the Year, Victor Osimhen found the back of the net tonight, banging in a goal for Napoli in the Champions League.
The Super Eagles star scored a first-half goal to double Napoli’s lead in their 2-0 win over Portuguese side Braga at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona Stadium on Tuesday night, Footballrover reports.
Braga’s promising start came to a halt after just nine minutes when a peculiar attempted clearance from Saatchi inadvertently led to Napoli’s opening goal, bouncing off the bar and into the net.
Throughout the match, opportunities abounded, with both goalkeepers making impressive saves from Horta and Zielinski.
However, it was Natan’s forceful advancement that set up Osimhen for an effortless second goal.
Osimhen’s strike in the 33rd minute marked his debut UEFA Champions League goal of the season.
Napoli, the Serie A champions, headed into halftime with a commanding 2-0 advantage over the Os Arsenalistas.
Despite an intense second half, neither side managed to score, leaving Osimhen with a tally of seven goals in 15 appearances for Napoli this season.
Looking ahead, Napoli’s next challenge is a Serie A clash against Cagliari, scheduled for Sunday.
The 24-year-old Nigerian international will be hoping to carry on with the momentum.
