Rovers FC’s head coach, Samson Unuanel, has expressed fervent praise for his squad’s performance, citing their recent 1-1 draw against Dakkada FC as “one of the best games we’ve played.“
Unuanel, renowned for his high standards, also commended the conducive environment during the match in Uyo, Footballrover reports.
The intense clash unfolded during the Nigeria National League (NNL) encounter, where the Calabar-based team clinched a hard-fought point in the thrilling Akwa-Cross derby against Dakkada FC.
In a captivating showdown at the Uyo Township Stadium, Rovers’ midfielder, Joshua Sunday, ignited the scoreboard with a stunning goal just 21 minutes into the game, propelling the Pride of Cross River into an early lead.
However, Dakkada FC exhibited sheer resilience, staging a remarkable comeback in the second period of the game.
A penalty opportunity arose in the 83rd minute, and Aniekan Ekpe capitalised on the chance, securing an equaliser that left both teams deadlocked at 1-1 till the final whistle.
Despite relentless efforts from both sides to clinch a victory, the match ended with a shared point.

While speaking to the media shortly after the game, the Rovers FC coach noted that:
“This is one of the best games we’ve played, and the environment is conducive. Forget about what happens during matches; the environment was actually conducive. No throwing of stones, no use of abusive words; the coaches were interacting, and the players did their best.“
The result left Rovers FC dropping to the fifth position in the league standings, now trailing the leaders, Madiba FC, by three points.
Looking ahead, Rovers FC aims to capitalise on this hard-earned point as they gear up to host Edel FC at the UJ Esuene Stadium in their upcoming fixture on Sunday.
