Calabar Rovers have broken their winless streak, securing a hard-fought victory against NNL rivals Coalcity FC in a thrilling match on Sunday.
The Calabar-based team had endured a challenging year, going five games without a win since January, suffering defeats at the hands of various opponents, including 1472 FC, Ekiti FC, Madiba FC, Coalcity Utd, and Beyond Limits, Footballrover reports.
However, their perseverance paid off as they clinched a crucial 1-0 win at the UJ Esuene Stadium, much to the delight of their home fans.
Utibe Archibong emerged as the hero of the match, netting the decisive goal with a brilliant finish inside the 18-yard box.
The victory marked a significant turnaround for Calabar Rovers, who finished the first round of the Nigeria National League (NNL) in 8th place with 14 points.
Despite an underwhelming display in the first half of the season, they have now kicked off the second half with a well-deserved win under the guidance of new coach, Caleb Esu.
Coach Caleb’s arrival has injected fresh energy into the team, and the win against Coalcity FC signals a promising start to his tenure.
Despite the narrow margin of victory, Calabar Rovers, however, find themselves in 7th position, just four points away from the relegation zone.
But then, this victory will serve as a massive morale boost for the team, providing hope for a successful second half of the season as they aim to climb further up the league table.
