‘Nonsense!’ – Nigerians Slam Kano Pillars as Two Super Eagles Stars Join Team

Nigerians Slam Kano Pillars as Two Super Eagles Stars Join Team

Nigerian football fans have not held back in their criticism of Kano Pillars after seeing images of the club’s poor training ground surface, even as Super Eagles stars Ahmed Musa and Shehu Abdullahi officially rejoined the team.

Both players were recently seen practicing with the squad ahead of their Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) match against Sunshine Stars, Footballrover reports.

Kano Pillars’ social media accounts confirmed the news, posting clips of the training session with Musa, Abdullahi, and the rest of the squad as they prepare for the crucial fixture.

Musa had earlier hinted at a possible return last month, creating a wave of speculation, and now the 31-year-old winger is set to begin his third stint with the Kano-based club.

Meanwhile, Abdullahi, also 31, is preparing for his second run with Pillars after playing for them briefly in 2012.

Musa and Abdullahi return as free agents amid fans’ backlash

Despite the excitement surrounding their return, fans are far from pleased with the conditions the two stars have walked into.

The quality of the training ground has become a hot topic of discussion, with many taking to social media to express their disappointment.Nigerians Slam Kano Pillars as Two Super Eagles Stars Join Team

They expressed that the training pitch is an embarrassment and in poor condition, noting that a professional club like Sai Masu Gida should maintain higher standards.

FIFA-licensed football agent and Australian researcher Wolfgang Gasparik was particularly dismayed, openly criticizing the pitch, calling it ‘nonsense’.

Many others shared similar sentiments, expecting more from a premier club like Kano Pillars.

Although the NPFL transfer window for the 2024/25 season has closed, Musa and Abdullahi were able to join the squad as free agents, with NPFL’s head of competitions, Sunday Obaseki, confirming that their registration would not be an issue.

Can Musa and Abdullahi lift Pillars out of their slump?

Kano Pillars find themselves in 14th place on the NPFL table, having picked up just four points in their first four games.

After an opening-day 3-0 victory over Ikorodu City, the team’s form took a nosedive, managing a 1-1 draw against Bendel Insurance before suffering consecutive defeats to Remo Stars and Abia Warriors.

Fans are now banking on the return of the Super Eagles duo to provide the much-needed spark as Pillars prepare to face Sunshine Stars in their next encounter.

While Musa and Abdullahi bring a wealth of experience to the squad, the question remains: can they turn things around on a pitch even with the presence of NPFL legend Rabiu Ali.
