Nasarawa Amazons sent a strong message to the rest of the NWFL Premiership after a dramatic 89th-minute goal secured a 1-0 victory over Edo Queens on Matchday 13, Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at the Lafia City Stadium.
The late strike from Akekoromowei Janet, assisted by Mathias Josephine, not only guaranteed Nasarawa Amazons a place in the Super Six but also snapped Edo Queens’ 12-match unbeatenrun, Footballrover reports.
Despite Edo Queens already sealing their playoff spot and rotating their squad, the Amazons were unrelenting in their pursuit of the commendable victory.
Nasarawa Amazons stay unbeaten at home, eyes on bigger stage
This result preserved the Amazon ladies’ perfect home record in the 2024/2025 NWFL Premiership season—seven wins from seven matches at the Lafia fortress.
With two more victories away, one draw, and three losses, the team now sits second in Group A with one round of fixtures left in the regular season.
Coach Christopher Danjuma’s squad showed their hunger and composure, especially in the dying minutes, as Janet stepped up to be the hero.
Her goal capped a disciplined performance and reignited belief that the Amazon Queens can go all the way in the title race.

While many teams would celebrate clinching a Super 6 ticket, Danjuma made it clear that his eyes are on something much bigger.
“Our target is to qualify for the CAF Women’s Champions League,” the coach declared. “And to do that, we need to win the Super 6 in Ikenne.”
Meanwhile, the matchwinner Janet revealed a focused mindset.
“I thank God Almighty for the goal and the win. We focus on one game at a time, and qualifying for the Super 6 is our priority,” she said, grounding her joy in team ambition.
