Meet six Nigerians who will be playing at the World Cup in Qatar

Given the abundance of football talent in Nigeria, we have chosen to highlight some notable players of Nigerian descent who will represent other countries at the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

Below are the six Nigerians who will be representing other countries at the World Cup

Jamal Musiala

Our number one on the list is the Bayern Munich’s young star, who was named to the team for the tournament after his stunning performance for the German giants.

The former Chelsea youth star was born in Stuttgart, Germany, to a British-Nigerian father and a German mother and currently has nine goals and six assists for Bayern this season.

Musiala, who was also capable of representing Nigeria through his father, has participated for both England and Germany at the youth international stage.

However, he later declared his intention to play for Germany in full international competition.

Bukayo Saka

At number two is the talented Arsenal star, who made his debut three seasons ago against Fulham and has since developed into one of the Gunners’ important players under Mikel Arteta’s leadership.

The 21-year-old, whose parents are from Nigeria and who presently has four goals and six assists to his credit, was eligible to play for the Super Eagles of Nigeria but decided to join the Three Lions instead.

Karim Adeyemi

The 21-year-old Borussia Dortmund forward was also born to a Nigerian father and a Romanian mother in the city of Munich in Germany.

He represented Germany at every age-grade level until making his senior team debut against Armenia in a World Cup qualifying match in 2021, stepping in as a late substitute and earning his team’s sixth goal.

After featuring in 11 games, Adeyemi has failed to have any goal involvement for Borussia Dortmund, who are currently ranked sixth in Bundesliga, but was still considered to be part of the German team for World Cup.

Manuel Akanji

At number four is Manchester City defender, Akanji who was born in Neftenbach, Switzerland, to a Nigerian father and a Swiss mother.

The 27-year-old was one of the 23 players selected for the Swiss side to compete in the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

After being called up for the 2022 tournament in Qatar, the defender will be participating in the World Cup for the second time.

Noah Okafor

At number five is Noah Okafor, the son of a Nigerian father and a Swiss mother, Born in Binningen. The forward, who is 22 years old, represented Switzerland at every youth level.

On November 15, 2021, Okafor scored his first goal for Switzerland against Bulgaria in a World Cup qualifying match. The victory gave Switzerland automatic qualification to the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Noah Okafor is currently bossing the Austrian Bundesliga, where he ply his trade with his eight goals involvement in 14 matches this season.

Ike Ugbo

The last but not the least is Ike Ugbo, who might have waited for a call up to the Nigerian Super Eagles squad but chose to move on after his failure to get a call.

The Canada World Cup 2022 squad was announced by manager John Herdman few days ago with Ike Ugbo making the final 26-man list as the North American will be making their first appearance in the tournament since 1986.

Although Ike Ugbo has not been in top form this season with just a goal and assist to his name while featuring in 13 matches for Ligue 1 side – Troyes, the forward will be looking to bounce back at the competition in Qatar.
