With just weeks to go before the crucial Super Eagles vs Zimbabwe clash in the World Cup Qualifiers 2026, The Warriors’ head coach, Michael Nees has made a bold declaration.
As both teams struggle to revive their qualification hopes, Nees is confident his side can pull off a shock victory when they meet in Uyo, Footballrover reports.
But will the Warriors truly rise to the occasion, or is this just mind games ahead of the high-stakes showdown?
Super Eagles vs Zimbabwe: Can the Warriors stun Nigeria in Uyo?
Nigeria will host Zimbabwe on Matchday Six at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Tuesday, March 25.
With just three points from four matches, the Super Eagles sit fifth in Group C, while Zimbabwe lingers at the bottom with two points.
Both teams are desperate for a win to keep their dreams of reaching the 2026 competition alive.
Despite Nigeria’s home advantage, Nees believes the Warriors can seize the moment.
“Like us, Nigeria has struggled in these qualifiers. They are like wounded lions looking to bounce back. It will be an exciting game, and Nigeria is beatable in Uyo,” he said as quoted by Allafrica.
World Cup Qualifiers 2026: Super Eagles squad list revealed
Meanwhile, Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has unveiled a 39-man provisional squad for the upcoming match.
The list includes five goalkeepers, ten defenders, ten midfielders and 14 forwards, with the final squad expected to be trimmed to 23 players before the showdown.
- The Super Eagles camp will open in Kigali on Sunday, March 16.
- The final squad list will be revealed this week before the players report to camp.
- Nigeria will face Rwanda in Kigali on Friday, March 21, before hosting Zimbabwe’s Warriors at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo four days later at 5 PM.
As the tension builds, all eyes will be on Uyo to see whether the Nigerian Eagles can silence Zimbabwe or if Nees’ men will defy expectations.
