Mali defeated Cameroon 2-0 in the second Group C match played at the 19-May-1956 Stadium in Annaba, Algeria, to qualify for the quarterfinals and also top the group with 6 points after winning two matches against Burkina Faso and Cameroon.

After a seemingly uneventful first half performance by both teams, Mahamoud Barry shot the Malians into the lead in the 85th minute of the second half through a perfect run into the Cameroonian eighteen-yard box for the first goal of the match.

Malian’s highest goal scorer in the tournament, Mamadou Doumbia, doubled the tally to 2-0 for the Central Africans in the third minute of second-half extra time.

Mamadou Doumbia had scored two goals in two of the Malian group matches.
He scored the lone goal for Mali against Burkina Faso and the second goal against Cameroon.

Mali had the upper hand in the early stages of the second half with three successive chances that did not yield any dividends for the team.

Malian two-goal hero Mamadou Doumbia had an earlier chance to make hay for his team in the 59th minute of the second half, but his attempt missed the target.

Ten minutes later, in the 69th minute of the second half, a Cameroonian attacker also missed a chance to turn the match in his team’s favor but wasted the opportunity.
